The Health Science Journalist

My name is Sabrina McCrear, and my academic and professional journey is deeply rooted in a commitment to bridging healthcare and communication. I specifically focus on advocating for people of color who frequently interact with the medical field. I aim to provide diverse communities with essential information to help them make informed health decisions, ultimately fostering positive change and impact.

The Health Science Journalist is a showcase of my work with numerous stories across multiple publications, such as The American Journal of Managed Care, U.S. News and World Report, The Baltimore Times, and Howard University News Service.

about

ABOUT

I am an Associate Editor at The American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC) and a graduate of Howard University with a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in Biology. My work sits at the intersection of health reporting, editorial leadership, and data-driven storytelling, with a focus on making healthcare more accessible and transparent.

At AJMC, I write and edit daily news and feature articles on disease states, treatments, and healthcare policy. I also lead initiatives to strengthen our digital presence through social media strategy and audience engagement. This blend of editorial work and audience-focused strategy has sharpened both my ability to translate complex health issues clearly and my understanding of how readers interact with critical health content.

Previously, as a health editorial intern at U.S. News & World Report, I covered maternal health equity, abortion care access, and hospital performance metrics. These experiences taught me to approach sensitive health topics with rigor, empathy, and precision.

I’m especially passionate about reporting that helps people understand how healthcare trends, corporate decisions, and policy changes shape everyday lives. My background in health journalism and advocacy informs my commitment to producing stories that illuminate—and challenge—the systems that influence care, access, and equity.
